Zune Social adds gadgets, favorites
Microsoft today updated its Zune Social service to include new features and fixes for those using the company's new media players. A new feature, called Gadgets, lets users share the information from their Zune profiles on other websites such as forums; like the profile pages themselves, it includes a glance at recently played songs, including album art and a link to the Zune Marketplace. Songs tagged as favorites either on a Zune device or the software will also show up in a profile as well as a user's top-ranked artists across their whole play history. Other fixes are said to include a much longer list of 24 recent songs (up from 5) with timestamps for each track, an easier way to remove friends from a social list, and more detailed information about songs and albums sent as recommendations across the service.
Star Sugden walks tall in a lions den
Chad Sugden of Newark Martial Arts Club travelled to Scotland on Friday to fight for the WKA 50kg British title in what his father and coach Dean Sugden described as the most hostile environment he has ever witnessed.
The 13-year-old was up against Scott Allen from Motherwell and the journey from Newark started at 7am for a noon weigh-in at The Rivals Gym in Scotland.
The fight attracted a lot of attention as Chad has proved himself the best in Britain previously but had never fought against his older opponent.
The 15-year-old started as the favourite as he had never lost in home town and holds two world and various British titles, but the Newarker was confident as he had been training and sparring with his recently crowned European champion club-mate Jade Grierson.

Gift-Card Sales Are Increasing
Gift cards are more popular than ever, according to the National Retail Federation. The NRF's fifth annual survey has found that gift card sales will total $26.3 billion this holiday season. Last year sales totaled $24.8 billion. The NRF survey also indicates that the average consumer will spend more on gift cards this year than he or she did last year. Gift cards, which have become much more popular in recent years, are cards for a specified dollar value -- but without any individual's name attached. (This differs from a "gift certificate," in which a specific person's name is listed on the certificate as the recipient of the dollar value of the certificate, such as a $50 gift certificate bought from a restaurant or a clothing store for use by a particular person) How are gift card sales doing locally? Interviews by The Greeneville Sun found that the sale of gift cards reportedly is increasing in local stores and restaurants.
